Are you ready to go viral ?
Yalllll ready for some tea. Lol I have a story for y’all.
One of my biggest tips to future business owners is to be ready to go viral! This is important, I can’t stress how important this is.
So most of you know the story of how I created ATH if you don’t here is the short version.
All Things Hair started about 5 or 6years ago. I started off with a page called all things hair for hair tips. I was also doing YouTube at the time. I was approached by a hair company that wanted to pay me to put out YouTube videos and wear there hair. I said yes. After a while I was over it and wanted something for myself. They were promoting me on their page and that helped me really build a following. So then I started All Things Hair the product line as my way out of working for this company. I created my first product and sold about 30 the day I released it. Then came Grow Me Crazy ! I created it within a week and was testing it for another week. Then the unexpected happened.
On February 27th 2015 I went viral. My product solid to over 1000 people in 12 hours. By the end of the day I had made 14,000 dollars. Excited as hell but never thought about what that meant for me as a business owner. I just knew that then I created something that was special and I was going great places.
Girllllllll. No. Okay ? Lol just no.
My ass was in trouble. I was selling my products under price. Yep. I didn’t have the body power to complete all those orders. And I didn’t have the supplies. I was struggling. Things started to get bad. I couldn’t keep up with my demand but I also couldn’t stop selling I had to make up for under selling. It was a huge mess. By the summer my customers were fed up. I had 36 BBB complaints and end up letting my mouth get me in trouble as always lol. I made a YouTube video saying the BBB can’t do nothing to me. 🤦🏾♀️ the bbb said awwwww ok Bitch.
On September 11th 2015. the bbb had issued a consumer alert on my business and called the local news to interview me. I absolutely hate talking about this. It makes me cringe. As I’m typing this I’m cringing. ( deep heavy sigh. ) it was so embarrassing. I was crying while the cameras were rolling. I wasn’t answering the questions well at all. I was just fucked. Worst day of my life.
But I learned so much from it.
I’m truly grateful for the experience in more ways than you know. People love to flip my news story or bring it up when to try and discourage me. I’m here to tell you that I’ve overcame that. I’ve flipped that to a very positive part of my testimony.
So there is the tea 😂 and the lesson. Hope you’re ready to go viral.
